The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for a Certified Police Officer.  The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Responsibilities:

Protect lives and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.  Patrols a designated area of the city on foot or in a radio equipped car to preserve law and order.  Answers call and complaints and responds to fires, automobile accidents, robberies, and other misdemeanors and felonies. Investigates criminal and civil complaints and attempts to make a proper disposition or directs them to the proper authorities.   Administers first aid, conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, obtains witnesses, makes arrest and takes prisoners to jail.  Operates a variety of equipment used in police work including Breathalyzer machine, mobile or base two-way radio, traffic radar unit, computers and other related or assigned equipment.  Performs related accident investigation, interviews witnesses, gathers information, performs investigation to help determine the cause of accident, and prepares detailed accident investigation report; makes arrest and transport  prisoners to jail; testify as a witness in court when necessary.   Maintains required records and reports of activities and events while on duty.   Give advice on laws and ordinance as well as general information to the public in a general forum, special event, or individual.

 

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of modern police operations, principles, practices, and procedures and have the ability to apply this knowledge to specific situations.  Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to law enforcement.  Knowledge of pertinent laws and ordinances, department rules and regulations, and ability to enforce them impartially and professionally.  Knowledge of the geography of the city or ability to acquire this knowledge.   Ability to establish effective working relationship with supervisors, peers, outside agencies, and the general public.  Ability to enforce the law fairly and impartially with tact and courtesy or firmness necessary.  Ability to use a computer and computer programs necessary for job performance.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.  Ability to perform duties requiring physical endurance and agility frequently under adverse and dangerous conditions.  Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.  Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and conditions.  Ability to have and maintain physical requirements as specified by department policy. Ability to exhibit professionalism at all times.   Skill in the use and care of firearms, vehicles, and other assigned police equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent.

Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.

Must possess a valid unrestricted Driver’s License with a driving record suitable for insurability.

Must possess a State of AL Peace Officers Law Enforcement Certification or obtain a lateral academy (APOST) certification at the earliest opportunity.

Must be able to work flexible hours.

 

Necessary Special Requirements:

Must present evidence of good moral character as attested by background investigation.

The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for two Laborers with the Public Works Department. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Operate light powered machines used in public works such as power lawn mowers, weed eaters, hand tools, and similar equipment.

2. Use shovels and similar hand tools and simple power tools to remove refuse from streets; remove limbs and leaves from streets, right-of-ways and drainage.

3. Perform foot detail for manual sweeping, cleaning, or litter pickup.

4. Perform limited custodial work, policing areas and grounds, mowing, raking and other manual tasks.

5. Performs related work as assigned or required

Requirements for this position include:

1. Knowledge of grounds maintenance and detail work.

2. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.

3. Skilled in the use of manual cleaning equipment, rakes, shovels, and brooms.

4. Ability to operate light power equipment

5. Ability to make simple field repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment.

6. Ability to operate light power equipment

7. Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions.

8. Ability to establish effective relationships with the general public, performing tasks with courtesy and tact.

9. Sufficient physical strength to lift at least 50 pounds, walk for extended periods, work in very cold or very hot conditions, work in storms and agility to perform manual work.

Job Description:

The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for Firefighter for Guntersville Fire & Rescue.  The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Responsibilities:

Perform the duties of a fire fighter and EMT-B. Primary team member to respond to medical emergencies and administers basic life support as required in medical emergencies and fire and rescue responses. Perform hose deployments, vehicle relay, pump and possible ladder operations. Enter burning structures to rescue personnel and administer emergency first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Shut off building utilities, evacuate personnel from buildings, protect personnel and equipment from fire exposures, and operate tools/equipment. Perform inspections and operator maintenance on firefighting vehicles, tools, equipment, specialized protective clothing, and fire hydrants. Inspect, maintain, service, repair, and test portable fire extinguisher systems and parts. Respond to hazardous materials incidents and perform containment operations to the level certified. Participate in practice drills and training.

 

Specific knowledge, skill, ability, requirement:

Ability to quickly perform all functions in difficult and hazardous situations, without hesitation, with direction from superiors. Ability to comprehend and apply instructions, and communicate information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to respond to potentially dangerous situations and make quick and sound decisions. Ability to perform physically demanding work and withstand very hazardous conditions. Ability to effectively communicate with the customer in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Valid unrestricted Drivers License

2. At least 18 years of age on the date of application

3. High school diploma or equivalent

4. Must not have been convicted of any serious misdemeanors; must not have been convicted of a felony.

5. ProBoard, or International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certification for Fire Fighter I

 

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Possess current Firefighter I certification from the Alabama Fire College (AFC) or a current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) from approved AFC test location.

2. Associate’s or higher-level degree from an accredited college or

university

3. Prior firefighting experience

 

All applicants shall be required to meet the minimum standards set forth by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission, NFPA1001 entrance qualifications and the Code of Alabama for application. If hired, the candidate will be required to successfully complete and maintain training set forth by the previous mentioned bodies to maintain employment, it include Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) through the Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of EMS and Trauma.
