The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for Health and Safety Officer for Guntersville Fire & Rescue. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

Develop, implement and monitor department Occupational Health and Safety Policy, Programs, and Procedures. Oversee compliance with current health and safety legislation and/or regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety and health of department employees. Establish budget proposals for the operation of the Occupational Health and Safety office programs. Increase health and safety awareness at all levels within the organization. Investigate and report on all serious/critical personal injury accidents occurring to students, staff and/or visitors to the appropriate senior official, and to assist in the investigation of all accidents/incidents that result in substantial damage to vehicles and property. Investigate and report on complaints of hazardous working conditions to the Fire Chief and command staff. Respond to employees’ safety concerns. Respond to fires and other emergencies. Coordinate registration and removal of hazardous waste. Arrange for Occupational Health and Safety testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants as necessary. Coordinate the training of personnel in areas of safety, including first aid, CPR, accident prevention and investigation, work place inspections and other matters related to implementing safety procedures within department. Develop, review, and update appropriate departments Standard Operating Procedures. Assume other duties as assigned.

 

Specific knowledge, skill, ability, requirement:

Ability to assist the Incident Commander (IC) and Incident Safety Officer (ISO) on responder safety and welfare. Ability to oversee safety during department training evolutions. Ability to contribute to the program of care and maintenance of equipment and vehicles. Ability to oversee the safety aspects of department the facilities. Ability to assists personnel in dealing with the health risks. Knowledge of Emergency Responses, Safety and Risk Management, Driving and Vehicle Safety, Infection Control Program, Environmental Health, Apparatus and Equipment, Facility Safety and Inspection, Personal Protective Equipment, Practical Training Evolutions, Medical and Fitness Programs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Valid unrestricted Driver’s License

2. At least 18 years of age on the date of application

3. High School diploma or equivalent

4. Must not have been convicted of any serious misdemeanors: must not have been convicted of a felony.

5. Possess current ProBoard, or International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certification for Firefighter II.

6. 8 years firefighting experience

7. 5 years as programs manager

 

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Associate’s or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university

2. Fire Officer I

3. Possess current ProBoard, or International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certification for Fire Department Safety Officer; Incident Safety Officer, Health and Safety Officer

The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for Training Officer for Guntersville Fire & Rescue. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

Plan, develop, schedule, coordinate, and implement the full range of training programs for the department; prepare lesson plans and training manuals; plan and schedule training exercises; teach classes in classrooms and at training grounds testing the knowledge and performance of fire personnel. Oversee and coordinate the attendance of Departmental staff at training programs and seminars. Establish and supervise the maintenance of the training records system as required to renew and obtain certifications and to maintain a current promotional priority list. Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for training activities; identify resource needs; recommend and implement policies and procedures. Participate in monitoring and evaluating employee performance; identify training needs; review training evaluation results with employee and work to correct deficiencies. Participate in the development and conduct of entry level and promotional examinations. Research and develop new training programs. Maintain the training library; manage the department’s video equipment. Assume other duties as assigned.

 

Specific knowledge, skill, ability, requirement:

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures for the field delivery of emergency medical services, apparatus operation, and modern fire suppression. Knowledge of principles of course and program development, and testing and evaluation. Ability to learn the principles, rules, regulations, laws, and ordinances as they relate to areas of responsibility. Ability to analyze the effectiveness of the training program as it fulfills the needs of the department. Ability to utilize research and quality control measures to determine the need for new methods, training, and/or equipment. Ability to plan, organize and supervise programs with minimal direction. Ability to participate in budget preparation and administration. Ability to complete accurate, understandable reports and records. Ability to communicate effectively in oral, written and data processing formats.
