The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for a Adult Services Librarian in the Municipal Library System.  The primary Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  1. Provide excellent customer service to library users in the adult section of the library.
  2. Responsible for collection development for all adult collections; genealogy, and local history.
  3. Identify and implement strategies to maximize the effective use of existing resources to meet the needs of adult library users and library personnel.
  4. Plan and provide library programs for adults within our community.
  5. Provide Interlibrary Loan to users of library and regularly update the library’s resources on OCLC.
  6. Responsible for content for adult users on the Library’s website.
  7. Provide technology training and support to the library staff and users.
  8. Maintains library statistics of circulation, computer usage, and program participation.
  9. Cooperate positively and productively with library staff, city employees, community agencies and the general public to fulfill the Library’s Mission Statement: “This is the public’s Library.  It is an essential force in the educational, recreational, and cultural life of our community.  Well trained, courteous library staff provides accurate information, exceptional programs, quality collections and outstanding service to our community.”

 

Requirements for this position include:

 

  1. A Master of Library and Information Sciences Degree from an American Library accredited program. Will consider persons enrolled in the required degree.
  2. Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of public libraries.
  3. Knowledge of genealogy sources, standards, and practices or the willingness to become knowledgeable.
  4. Knowledge of integrated library systems, software packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher), social media uses for libraries, digital content and networking basics.
  5. Thorough knowledge of information formats, delivery methods, and reading materials for adults.
  6. Interest in and enthusiasm for working with adults and information technology.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain cordial and effective working relationships with staff, city government, our community, and library users.
  8. Ability to work with a wide range of people, adults, children and teens effectively to further the mission of the Library.
  9. Ability to plan, implement, publicize and evaluate material and services for adults.
  10. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes night and weekend work.
  11. Ability to lift on an occasional basis a maximum of 50 pounds with frequent or constant lifting of 25 pounds, to stand for at least an hour at a time, and to reach heights of 72 inches on a frequent basis.

The City of Guntersville currently has two openings for a Certified Police Officer or Rookie Police Officer.  The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Protect lives and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.
  2. Patrols a designated area of the city to preserve law and order.
  3. Answers calls and complaints involving fire, automobile accidents, robberies, and other misdemeanors and felonies.
  4. Conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, obtains witnesses, makes arrest and takes prisoners to jail.
  5. Operates a variety of equipment such as intoxilizer machine, mobile or base two-way radio, traffic radar unit and other assigned equipment.
  6. Performs related work as assigned or required.
  7. Exhibits professionalism at all times.

 

Requirements for this position include:

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  2. Must have a valid Alabama Driver’s License and driving record suitable for insurability.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  4. Must be able to work flexible hours.
  5. Possess knowledge of the geography of the city.
  6. Skilled in the use and care of firearms and other assigned law enforcement equipment.
  7. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  8. Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions.
  9. Ability to enforce the law with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
  10. Must possess a State of AL Peace Officers Law Enforcement Certification or must successfully complete Police Academy Minimum Certification within a specified time from date of appointment.
