The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for a Maintenance worker at the Guntersville Parks and Recreation Center. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

1. Mowing grass, trim shrubs, rake leaves and polices outside areas and keeps clean of trash and debris; may apply herbicides or pesticide.

2. Does minor painting and limited building repair; replaces light bulbs.

3. Drags and lines athletic fields.

4. Cleans restrooms, replaces lavatory supplies and disposes of trash and waste paper.

5. Drives truck, mower, & tractor; operates various mechanized hand and power equipment used in cutting grass, maintaining grounds, custodial work, and limited facility repair work.

6. Maintains tools, truck, mower, tractor and other power equipment; makes simple field repairs.

7. Open and closes buildings, park, pool, and other facilities as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials & equipment.

2. Knowledge of park, athletic field, and grounds maintenance.

3. Knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing and small engine repair.

4. Skilled in the operation of hand and powered equipment.

5. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

6. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.

7. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.

8. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform manual work.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess a valid unrestricted Driver’s License with driving record suitable for insurability.

The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for Firefighter for Guntersville Fire & Rescue. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

Perform the duties of a fire fighter and EMT-B. Primary team member to respond to medical emergencies and administers basic life support as required in medical emergencies and fire and rescue responses. Perform hose deployments, vehicle relay, pump and possible ladder operations. Enter burning structures to rescue personnel and administer emergency first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Shut off building utilities, evacuate personnel from buildings, protect personnel and equipment from fire exposures, and operate tools/equipment. Perform inspections and operator maintenance on firefighting vehicles, tools, equipment, specialized protective clothing, and fire hydrants. Inspect, maintain, service, repair, and test portable fire extinguisher systems and parts. Respond to hazardous materials incidents and perform containment operations to the level certified. Participate in practice drills and training.

Specific knowledge, skill, ability, requirement:

Ability to quickly perform all functions in difficult and hazardous situations, without hesitation, with direction from superiors. Ability to comprehend and apply instructions, and communicate information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to respond to potentially dangerous situations and make quick and sound decisions. Ability to perform physically demanding work and withstand very hazardous conditions. Ability to effectively communicate with the customer in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Valid unrestricted Drivers License

2. At least 18 years of age on the date of application

3. High school diploma or equivalent

4. Must not have been convicted of any serious misdemeanors; must not have been convicted of a felony.

5. Possess current Firefighter I certification from the Alabama Fire College

6. National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic certification

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Prior firefighting experience

2. National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic

3. Associate’s or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university

All applicants shall be required to meet the minimum standards set forth by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission, NFPA1001 entrance qualifications and the Code of Alabama for application. If hired, the candidate will be required to successfully complete and maintain training set forth by the previous mentioned bodies to maintain employment, it include Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) through the Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of EMS and Trauma.

The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for an Equipment Operator I with the Public Works Department. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Operates tractor pulling various equipment such as bush hog.

2. Operates spraying equipment.

3. Drives medium duty truck, hauls trash, debris and other materials.

4. Drives truck of various types hauling personnel and materials to work sites.

5. Operates other powered equipment utilized in performance of assigned tasks; services equipment, sharpens mower blades and makes minor field repairs and adjustments as required.

6. Performs manual labor tasks such as sweeping streets, grass cutting, picking up trash, and other manual tasks.

7. Performs related work as assigned or required

Requirements for this position include:

1. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of motor driven equipment used in maintenance activities and demonstrates ability to operate assigned equipment.

2. Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations.

3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the operation of assigned equipment and associated manual labor tasks.

4. Knowledge of manual labor associated with public works, repair, and maintenance of municipal properties.

5. Ability to operate light power equipment.

6. Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions.

7. Ability to establish effective relationships with the general public, performing tasks with courtesy and tact.

8. Sufficient physical strength to lift at least 50 pounds, drive a truck or light equipment for 8 hours and have stamina to work in very cold and hot temperatures and work in inclement weather.

9. Must possess a valid unrestricted Driver’s License and have a driving record suitable for insurability.
