The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for Senior Center Aid. This is a part-time position (19.75 hrs/wk). The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Responsible for transportation of Senior Center patrons.

2. Delivers home bound meals to clients.

3. Assist in serving congregant meals to patrons.

4. Assist in cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen area.

5. Responsible for janitorial duties as needed.

6. Empties trash and recyclables as needed.

Requirements for this position include:

1. Must have a valid Alabama Driver’s License and driving record suitable for insurability.

2. Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends.

3. Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and supplies.

4. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.

5. Ability to communicate effectively with the citizens utilizing facilities and programs; ability to be helpful, courteous and deal tactfully with the citizens of Guntersville.

6. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform light to medium manual work.

The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for a Laborer with the Public Works Department. The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

1. Operate light powered machines used in public works such as power lawn mowers, weed eaters, hand tools, and similar equipment.

2. Use shovels and similar hand tools and simple power tools to remove refuse from streets; remove limbs and leaves from streets, right-of-ways and drainage.

3. Perform foot detail for manual sweeping, cleaning, or litter pickup.

4. Perform limited custodial work, policing areas and grounds, mowing, raking and other manual tasks.

5. Performs related work as assigned or required

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of grounds maintenance and detail work.

2. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.

3. Skilled in the use of manual cleaning equipment, rakes, shovels, and brooms.

4. Ability to make simple field repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment.

5. Ability to operate light power equipment

6. Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions.

7. Ability to work a flexible schedule and overtime when required.

8. Ability to establish effective relationships with the general public, performing tasks with courtesy and tact.

1. Collects residential and commercial recyclables.

2. Sorts and prepares recyclables for shipping.

3. Performs related work as assigned or required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Some knowledge of equipment used in sanitation work.

2. Ability to understand and follow simple oral & written instructions.

3. Ability to operate machinery used in recycling process.

4. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the general public, supervisors, and co-workers while performing tasks with courtesy and tact.

1. Possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license with driving record suitable for insurability.

Physical Requirements:

1. Sufficient physical strength to lift at least 50 pounds and carry it to the truck, ability to walk 8 hours a day and to work in very cold or very hot conditions and ability to reach overhead for extended periods of time.
